Presented by Don Rosencrans (”Welcome to Ralton”) and Matthew Price (”The Posthuman Project”), “Instant Heroes” is a collaboration featuring the Oklahoma Comic Creators.

At 2 p.m. on Feb. 1, 2014, Oklahoma Comic Creators will gather at Speeding Bullet Comics, 614 N. Porter Ave in Norman, OK. Teams of 1-4 creators each will have two hours to design a super hero and craft an origin.

From 4 p.m. - 7 p.m., fans will be able to vote for their favorite “Instant Hero.” All the competitors who complete a hero will be featured in the comic “Instant Heroes: An Oklahoma Comics Creators Anthology” from Speeding Bullet Comics.

Price, the co-owner of Speeding Bullet Comics with his wife, Annette, said the store wants to recognize in a fun way the creativity of the talent in Oklahoma. The store has previously hosted “24 Hour Comics Day,” in which creators have 24 hours to complete a comic. A collection of those stories, “OK24,” was published by Speeding Bullet. Price also worked with writer Sean Thiessen on the short film “Paradox” for the 48-Hour Film Contest in Oklahoma City in 2013.

“I think a deadline really motivates people,” Price said. “And I have faith in the creativity of my fellow Oklahoma Comic Creators.”

Each creative team will be presented with certain details at 2 p.m. on Feb. 1 that must be used in the creation of their character.

“Forever Evil: A.R.G.U.S.” writer Sterling Gates returns to Norman for a signing at 4 p.m. Saturday. And Speeding Bullet has a special, world-exclusive comic-book ashcan to share!

Speeding Bullet is crafting an independent comics anthology that will feature the work of several Oklahoma and Oklahoma-connected writers and artists: Writer Matthew Price, artist Jerry Bennett (”Nadir’s Zenith”), writer Sterling Gates (”Supergirl”) and artist Natasha Alterici (”Lucid”), among others.

The full “Speeding Bullet Comics Presents” No. 1 is intended for a spring 2014 release. But Saturday, while supplies last, get a signed, limited edition ashcan preview of Speeding Bullet Comics Presents, featuring a story by Sterling Gates, Cody Cundiff and Natasha Alterici. The story, “Gun Mistress,” takes place in the Old West.

The cover, drawn by Jerry Bennett, features our own Matthew Price’s character, the pulp hero known as The Grave! The Grave is featured in a preview of his “Speeding Bullet Comics Presents” #1 story.

Comics writer Sterling Gates is back at Speeding Bullet Comics on Jan. 18!

Sterling Gates, writer of comics including “Forever Evil: ARGUS” and “Justice League of America’s Vibe” is returning to Norman for a great event. Gates will sign his books from 4 to 6 p.m., Saturday, Jan 18, at Speeding Bullet Comics, 614 N Porter Ave. in Norman. We’ll have some new Sterling Gates issues as well as plenty of his greatest hits!

Sterling Gates was born and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He earned a degree in Art from the University of Oklahoma, specializing in Film and Media Arts. After moving to Los Angeles, Sterling worked as writer’s room production assistant on TV’s “Blade: The Series,” later becoming assistant to comic book industry giant, Geoff Johns.
